You've Got Chain-Mail

My mother was always ahead of her times when it came to fashion...she was bold, fearless and championed the best during the 80s.
Gianni Versace and Gianfranco Ferre were her go to people for their extreme style and perfect, precision cut.

So why am I going down memory lane? Well I came across this image of a model wearing a chain-mail Versace ( Donatella) dress in the June Marie Claire.....

Gorgeous isn't it? Look how it glistens in the desert sun....just the sort of body armour one needs on a blisteringly hot day....and believe me that dress is heavy,if memory serves from back in the day.

My mother had several chain-mail pieces ranging from tops to dresses...(Lord knows her monthly shopping expenses were as hefty as the weight of those dresses)....and I managed to dig up this photo, taken in 1984:

Haughty as a Supermodel, classier than any Socialite and the envy of many....

Incidentally, the 2 miserable cows( and we were miserable,I cut off our heads on purpose...) behind her are me and my sister...all 80's bushy hair and mom envy: she was once again stealing the show and hogging the limelight.
I am on the right in a cast off Gianfranco Ferre top of leather and suede strips with raglan sleeves...and I LOVED IT! My sister on the left...I cannot remember what she is wearing but it may well be a "borrowed" top from Mom's extensive Versace collection.

What goes around, comes around...needless to say we auctioned off the last of her chain-mail tops at Kerry Taylor auctions a few years back now and it sold well.

Memories..like the fashionable corners of my mind.....

Don't Get Shirty with Me!

One of my all time summer favourites is a shirt dress...clean,crisp and a summer fashion statement that...well,never goes out of fashion.
Having said that..it isn't always that easy to find and sometimes...you just don't want to spend £500.... See below...
....but Sales beckon!!...fingers crossed.

I have my eye out on a cute one by :
"Alice by Temperley"....
it comes in black or white with Broderie Anglaise and at £395 retail price, I hope to snap it up when in London.
During the sales...it is the luck of the draw....and I am in a gambling mood.

Then again there is always Margaret Howell to check out......we shall see!

Ashish has .....True to his fashion whimsy he has sequined versions for your pleasure.... and they are seriously cute!!!

Sequined Coke bag: £285
Sequined Disco bag: £270.....why the £15 price difference is beyond me...

Itsy Bitsy...Teenie Weenie Colourful Halal bikini .....

Here's a crash course in car crash fashion.....fashion and faith: never the twain shall meet.
Now  I've seen everything...... And everything I see in this image makes me shudder.

Here's a thought for you to mull over:
Why? .... What have we done to deserve such an assault to our delicate senses?
Someone please bring this woman to hers.
Enough said.

How To Dress Down ...Bajan style.

The undeniably gorgeous Rihanna was honoured as "style icon" at the Council of Fashion Designers of America gala.....and she came wearing Harry Potter's invisibility cloak that had been jujed up for the occasion with tiny, shiny crystals.

Anybody left wondering what the gorgeous Bajan looks like under her clothing...need not bother any more...it is burned onto our retinas for good.

Yes... she is gorgeous, yes... she doesn't give a flying fig what anybody thinks of her ...and you know what?
Good on her.

I passed a better part of my life worrying about what other people think, what other people might say and it has taken me years to pluck up the courage to get over it and not give a......

The closest I  ever came to wearing fishnets were stockings...thankfully.

The trophy was presented by the demure doyenne of fashion Anna Wintour who wields a lot of power and yet looks positively dowdy next to the statuesque, near naked beauty.

FYI: The  would be "dress" is designed by Adam Selman and covered in 216,000 Swarovski crystals....

Onto the opposite side of the fashion spectrum:

Miley Cyrus...who while on tour and on stage in Norway, took things "up a notch" by wearing her leotard so far up her  ...you could see Cleveland.
It  actually managed to make "Camel Toe" look chic ..... and that, I must say, deserves an award all on it's own.
